I’m not a person to toot my own horn but I’ve been told that I need to have an “About” page. So here it is! If you’re looking to contact me, click here.
I created this blog for many reasons, and the main one is to share useful information with interested people. I started using it at first to share food tutorials with friends, then it branched out into opinion posts and other random stuff, and now I’m getting search engine traffic every day which is cool albeit a little daunting, so please forgive me if I get a little self-conscious from time to time!
So my name is Rosie and I’ve been interested in just about everything since I can ever remember. That may sound ostentatious, but that’s not what I mean – I just mean I’m an information addict. And I also like to share what I find out, which earned me the reputation in my earlier years of being a know-it-all – but that (again) is not that I had in mind.
I read about the term “maven” in early 2011 in the book “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell cites Mark Alpert who said, “A maven is someone who wants to solve other people’s problems, generally by solving his own.” Malcolm Gladwell goes on to say that “mavens are really information brokers, sharing and trading what they know”.
I used to have friends and family members heckling me about how I should start a business connecting people to the specific information that they wanted to know. Presumably they hoped that if I did that, they wouldn’t have to listen to me telling them all about the latest things I’d learnt anymore!
Before the spread of the World Wide Web, I would simply shrug, and say, “Shame nobody would pay me to do it – otherwise it would be my ideal job.” But early this year, something clicked. I could run a blog.
But before anyone hits their “Home” button right now thinking I’m about to sell them something, give me a second to explain myself! I am not selling anything. (Well, not right now – I might write an e-book some time and sell that, but you’ll know about it – I won’t try and trick you into buying it!)
What you will find on my blog are a handful of Amazon links scattered around. I only ever link to products if they are relevant and/or recommended. I get a small commission if a product is sold via one of my links – it works out to a few cents a day at the moment, but it helps to pay the website hosting costs and maybe enough to buy me a book from time to time (yep, more information!!).
The blog also displays, from time to time, Google ads. I’m not 100% happy with them, but they do help to pay for the costs of running this site for now. If you see an offensive or otherwise distasteful ad, I encourage you to report it to me so that I can block it from appearing again. I don’t get a personal say about what ads show in those ad blocks, but I do get a say in what is blocked from showing. Eg if you see a baby formula ad, please let me know. Baby formula advertising is never OK. I’ve made attempts to filter them but sometimes they still make it through. I will block any that I see and you can help me to do that by emailing me to let me know. If you can send me a screenshot that’s even better. 🙂
Later down the track I might put some informational products on my site. These will be directly written by me and sold by me, and I’ll make clear note of them if and when I come to it, so we all know where we stand.
I’ll add more about me to this page as I go on, but for now, thanks for reading and check out my other pages, and check out the Natural Maven Facebook page!
